Chitra Santhe 2017

There is something beautiful about a blank canvas, the nothingness of the beginning that is so simple and breathtakingly pure. It’s the paint that changes its meaning and the hand that creates the story. Every piece begins the same, but in the end they are all uniquely different.”

Piper Payne
There can never be better start to new year than a visit to a world of colors and hues where imaginations run like a berserk river inundating everything on its way with emotions. Each artist when they paint , they also insert a part of their soul in the paintings. Bangalore’s own very CKP gives a boost to all the upcoming artists and their creativity by holding a painting exhibition every year around its campus.
This is the Mecca for all the art lovers who would like to drown themselves in the world of colors and creativity. I always  meet some interesting people during the arts habba.
There was one lady, software engineer at MNC, who was a self taught artist and had experimented in all forms of art which included 3-D modelling , oil , acrylic and mixed media too.
The traditional food  offered in the habba is something you can remember forever : Melt in mouth dosas , Chai brewed in a copper vessel , Jhalmuri , Popsicle are a lover’s delight and provides the energy boost to the hungry soul.
From the scenic , verdant landscapes to  wild animals on the prowl , there is a scene and scenery form all walks of life displayed in the rich canvas. I was standing besides a canvas with lines going here and there . And some splash of red and blue. And I asked my son , “What do you see ? ” He said , ” I think it is a rough drawing . He did not draw it fully “
I said , ” Look closely , there are figures hidden in it . ” And he started seeing clouds , a house floating in the red water , A bird staring from the sky .And what I saw , I girl draped in the blue water ready to come out from the ocean . And then I turned and told my son “We can see whatever we want in a painting, we just need to explore and look around. It is just like a treasure hunt.” Somehow this treasure thing appealed to him and he smiled approvingly.
This exhibition is organized on second sunday every year and it is a must see event once in your lifetime. There are performances by the students of Chitrakala Parishad and painting competitions for children.
Do plan a visit to Bangalore around this time and you will remember it for lifetime.

A real Deepawali !

IMG_1194

The festive season ensures that I am in my toes .The tradition of making your house and surrounding spic and span , offerings to the god and flurry of activities in the house creates an atmosphere of festivity all around . We also had deepawali celebration in the neighborhood where I and my few friends were in the organizing committee.  And organizing an event for 200 odd people involves a huge lot of work . A gala dinner  followed by cultural program and on the top of that  weather playing hide and seek kept us all guessing till the very end where to organize the program.

And on the day of function when it started raining heavily , we were glad that we had decided to do around the clubhouse . At least it ensured that though for a small time we were huddled close to each other , interacting , talking and eating together . Everybody was having a great time , the children performed and all of us  cheered for the small performers.

In all these raucousness there were  support staff,  gardeners , cleaners who were working all round the clock to make sure that we have great time . After the function when the time came to pay to the caterer , the security staff who had been assigned to sell the food coupons broke into tears( almost ) saying that few people bought the coupon last function and there was some miscalculation and he had to suffer loss of Rs 500 . We were exasperated to hear that and asked him why he did not tell us ? And he started saying that he did not know whether to tell as Madam log will not believe him .. We were  shocked to hear that . And decided to immediately pay him 500 Rupees and recommend the manager to give him award too. We could see his face light up immediately . And we were contented that though in a small way we could help someone who worked relentlessly for us . After all Deepawali is for everyone ….

And my beautiful abode lighted up … Picture clicked by Amit Sinha.

Mahashivratri and it’s significance

A few days back we celebrated Mahashivratri , a festival celebrated by hindus and its followers all over the world . Mahashivratri marks the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti , both of them represent the  supreme masculine and feminine energy .

Maha Shivratri is celebrated on the Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi of Hindu calendar month Maagh which falls in February or March as per the English calendar. Of the twelve Shivaratris in the year, the MahaShivarathri is the most powerful. According to some legends , Lord Shiva also performed the cosmic dance , Tandava on this day . Another story tells that when poison came out during churning of the sea , it was Lord Shiva who decided to drink that poison to save the world from its ill effects . With his yogic powers he was able to withheld the poison in his neck . His whole body turned blue and that ‘s why he is also called Neelkanth.

Lord shiva is the supreme among all gods . He is the limitless , unchanging and formless. He is the ascetic who lives in Mount kailasa , he is also the householder who lives with his wife Parvati and sons Ganesha and Kartik. The patron god of yoga and arts , his mysticism intrigues his disciples all over the world . He is beyond everything and that is why he is referred as Parbrahma.

Lord shiva is also refered as unborn , he has always been there , he appears by his own energy , he is the wind which blows on us , he is the water which quenches our thirst and the earth which gives shelter to us .He is the cosmic manifestation of all these . He does not have any beginning and nor any end .

On this festival of Mahashivratri , May lord Shiva bless you with peace, prosperity and a limitless energy which will help you lead a life of happiness and contentment. And as I always say May we find the greater purpose of life for which we are born for .
